Diablo Light Opera Company's Starstruck program is proud
to present an original musical comedy, Spam Spade, Pig
Detective, book, music and lyrics by Barrett-Lindsay Steiner,
for six performances in January.
The show is a spoof of the 40's detective movies (Think Humphrey
Bogart in The Maltese Falcon) featuring nursery rhyme
characters. The fast-paced production opens with Little Bo
Peep who has lost her sheep and she calls in Spam Spade to
help her find them. The detective discovers them singing "I
Want To Be Baaaaaad". Little did Spam know that it is actually
a ruse devised by the Big Bad Wolf and the evil Dr. Jack (of
Jack and Jill fame) to lure the porkly detective into their
web of song-filled suspense. Throw in the singing and dancing
Three Little Pigs (Oinka, Doinka and Doo), Miss Muffett and
the Spider, Mother Goose's missing manuscripts, and a host
of other familiar characters and the result is a fun-filled
hour of mirth, music, and mystery perfect for children of
all ages.
Spam Spade, Pig Detective is directed by Barrett Lindsay-Steiner
and Pam Koepf . Barrett is widely known in the Bay Area as
an actor, singer, writer, teacher, director and caterer. He
has several projects underway including A Titanic Christmas
at Lafayette's Town Hall Theatre and the long-running Reel
Blonde series at Victoria's Hair on Stage in Danville. Pam
Koepf was most recently seen on stage as Ado Annie in DLOC's
Oklahoma! Pam has also performed and taught widely
throughout the East Bay. The show is produced by Ellen Smith.
Costuming is by Jane Evans Wood whose fanciful costumes were
seen in Starstruck's The Not-Very-Secret Garden
last spring. Chris Boccard and Virginia Wilcox serve as
assistants to the directors.
The Starstruck program introduces children 8 through 15 to
the magic of musical theater. No auditions are required to
participate in the program, and students of all experience
levels are encouraged to register. We are now registering
for the spring program which will begin in February with performances
in May. Call 925-519-9346 for registration information.
Performances for Spam Spade are on Wednesday, January
20 and Friday, January 22 at 7:15 pm; Saturday, January 23
and Sunday, January 24 at 1:15 pm and 3:15 pm at the Dean
Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in the Knight Stage 3
